The Nigerian telecommunications and information technology sector could receive greater boost in terms of development and industrial harmony amongst operating companies if the various industry associations were willing to create a common platform for regular interface and networking with a view to address issues affecting their various sub-sectors.
It is in the spirit of the above view that the NEC of ATCON is planning a periodic Consultative Lunchtime Meeting of all Executive Committees of Telecom/ICT Associations. The NEC forum would regularly meet to monitor and evaluate the state of the industry and discuss ways of addressing issues that affect the industry from a global perspective.
To kick-start the meeting, the NEC of ATCON has directed its Secretariat to contact all the relevant industry associations to sell the idea and obtain suggestions on the desirability of the meeting and a possible date for the inaugural meeting which Teledom Group has already accepted to sponsor.
Expected to be part of the novel meeting are ATCON, ALTON, GSMA, ISPAN, NCS, ISPON, ACTON, ITAN, JACITAD as well as others not listed here. The meeting, it is hoped, will further strengthen the relationship between industry operators and ensure that efforts are not being dissipated by the different groups working at cross-purposes on any particular issue affecting part or the whole of the industry.
