Cyber café operators who have had reasons to worry about low returns of their investments in the internet business now have reasons to worry less with the forthcoming cyber business management workshop/expo organised by ATCON in partnership with Private Media Mart Limited, a consultancy outfit with keen interests in technology public relations, research, event management as well as media and publicity management. The event is slated for Friday, September 07, 2007 in the Sheraton Hotels & Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.
Internet has become the most cost-effective means of private and business communications globally. Online transactions are made possible by means of the internet. However, Nigeria is still trailing behind most developing countries in the use of internet. With most cyber cafés going under through mismanagement or lack of knowledge of the right technologies, internet business has been seen by most potential investors as unprofitable ventures.
The ATCON/Private Media Mart Limited workshop/expo is designed to create a business and technology solutions forum for players in the industry so as to provide a bridge between internet solutions providers (ISPs, telcos, cyber café applications providers, alternative power solutions providers, hardware companies and proprietary software providers like anti-virus, operating systems, etc.), and the cyber cafés operators and potential investors.
Studies have shown that one of the major reasons why cyber café businesses fail to achieve maximum returns on investment is due to shortage of information on the appropriate technologies. This is as a result of a widening gap between the technology/solutions providers and the cyber café operators. The planned workshop/expo is therefore aimed at creating a viable networking opportunity for both the technology/solutions providers and the cyber café investors.
ATCON believes that since most Nigeria do not have private access to internet in their homes; the cyber cafés have continued to provide internet access to most users. It therefore follows that every effort must be made to assist in the sustenance of cyber cafés as their extinction would further lower the rate of access to internet Nigeria.
We also hope that with the State Accelerated Broadband Initiative (SABI) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), cyber cafés would be further enabled to provide fast speed internet services that will encourage more patronage and higher incomes for the cyber cafés as well as their solution providers.
