We are expecting presentations on alternative energy and power technologies and solutions such as Bio-fuels, Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Micro-Hydro Electricity as well as backup support solutions like the UPS, all of which could be adequately explored and harnessed to facilitate accelerated development of the Nigerian telecom sector in particular, and drive the overall economic growth of our nation.
Major participants in the forum will include the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Information & Communications; Ministry of Science & Technology, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA); Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); Universal Service Provision Fund; Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and its subsidiaries; Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its subsidiaries; all local and foreign Energy and Power sector companies; etc. Others to participate in the summit are telecom sector operators, Banks and non-bank financial institutions, local and foreign development agencies, state governments involved in Independent Power Projects (IPP), the mass media, the general public, etc.
Key presentations will examine the reform agenda of government on energy and power and projections on the short and long term performance expectations; the broadband on power lines initiative; development of bio-fuels as cost-effective alternative energy; impact of erratic power supply on quality of telecom service delivery; other viable energy and power alternatives available for the telecom sector, etc.
ATCON is the apex and umbrella organisation of telecom industry operators in Nigeria. Since its inauguration on December 10, 1993, ATCON has been a central platform for sharing industry-specific ideas that have facilitated the rapid and sustainable growth of the telecom sector in Nigeria. We sincerely believe that the stakeholders’ summit on the state of Nigeria’s energy and power sector will generate ideas that would bring about the much needed turn-around in our energy and power situation.
