The Association of Telecommunications of Companies has concluded plans to have its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Executive Council (NEC) Elections 2010. These events have been slated for Friday, April 30th 2010 at Golden Gates Chinese Restaurants, Ikoyi - Lagos at 10.00a.m promptly. The member- companies of the association have been advised to pick up election forms for various elective posts at the Secretariat.
The current President of the Association, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has reiterated that he would like somebody who is competent and understands industry issues to succeed him. He said ATCON has been in the front burner advocating for the growth and development of Telecommunications Sector in Nigeria. As part of its strategies to ensure continuous advocacy for the growth and development of the telecommunications sector and avoid sit-tight syndrome, the Association said it has put everything in place to ensure a free and fair election or re-election of some current National Executive Members that would steer the ship of the Association in the next two years.
Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem is the third President of the association since its inauguration in 1993. Since his assumption of office, Ekuwem has led ATCON to a higher level of growth and development. In fact, during his tenure, ATCON contribution to telecomm development has been described as very fantastic. According to one of our member-companies, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has brought dynamism into ATCON programmes and activities and the time has come for him to give other professionals the opportunity to consolidate on his achievements and take the association and, in deed, the entire ICT industry to yet another level.
Apparently, Emmanuel Ekuwem is leaving a big shoe behind and the person that must step into his shoes must be ready to make sacrifices and work very hard to match or beat his enviable records. Of note was the SIM Pack Registration which has become the policy direction of the Nigerian Communication Commission. Thus, ATCON under Emmanuel Ekuwem has fulfilled the mission of ATCON in growing the Nigerian telecom sector to greater height.
